...at the mall (I was there for 1 freakin’ hour having lunch) and my video iPod was stolen out of my glove compartment. A guy that works at the mall had just parked his car and was walking out of the parking area when he saw a couple teenagers looking shady and walking up to a bunch of different cars testing the doors, etc. This good citizen trusted his gut instinct and called the cops which resulted in the catching and subsequent arrest of these criminals within minutes. This was the moment when I returned to my car to find my property stolen but I didn’t have time to get upset as this guy and the cop informed me that they had caught the hoodlums and have my iPod to return back to me! I thanked this random guy profusely and got his name and where he worked. After getting everything back and completing my report with the police, I marched straight into Coach and bought a lovely men’s wallet, had it gift boxed, filled out a card and walked into Sun Diego at Fashion Valley Mall where Eric worked to give it to him as a huge THANK YOU. He insisted that I did not need to get him a reward, but I told him that if it wasn’t for his honesty and effort I wouldn’t have gotten my property back.
Besides, if he (or his co-workers) share the story with others and that gets one more person to do the right thing and look out for their neighbors… well then it was worth it.
P.S. I told him he could return the wallet if he didn’t like it and he said, “My first Coach wallet?! I’m not picky!”
And then, he smiled.
