I want to write haiku like my friend Ken

My friend Ken worked at a small radio station almost all his life, primarily as the news director…not an easy life bottled up in that little room but for years he spun records and kept us entertained…he’s now retired and lives with his two grandsons…he has had his ups and downs, but he still has a great sense of humor and wit, and he shares his poetry with me from time to time…he once told me he wanted his haiku inscripted on his tombstone…”I was just starting to get the hang of it, but then I had to leave”.
