This is a biggie 4 weeks ago

I’m managing my time really badly at the moment and it’s something I need to work on. My working hours are random so my schedule is different every day. That said, I usually always know my schedule for few weeks in advance and I have work on at 6pm every day, so it’s not that random. I guess it’s just different in that I’m used to more structure, i.e. working 9 till 5 and now that that structure is not there, I get easily distracted and get nothing done.
For example, I really could’ve/should’ve finished my course couple of months ago, but I forget to study… and when I remember, I’m distracted by other things because I’m finding the course mind numbingly boring, I find it difficult to motivate myself.
There are also other things I want to do and I want to keep the house tidy and do non-work related stuff, just because I can. Basically, I want to stop wasting my time, try to be a bit more productive, whilst still enjoying my freedom and enjoying the fact that I don’t need to kill myself with work.
I’m going to pull out the Now Habit book, that helped me immensely before…. Though I think part of my problem is that I’m just really lazy…

Yesterday 11 months ago

I don’t know what I did with my time, but I didn’t get much done.
After Bikram, I was meant to come home, have lunch, do a few little things and then work on my CV until about 2.30/3pm. At 2.30pm I realised I hadn’t even started!

I think the biggest problem is that I spend a lot of time online, some of it on 43T, some on Facebook, emails and also on a local site where I chat to few friends. Some of this time is justified and very important to me because I don’t really get to interact with many people face to face on daily basis, but a lot of it is time wasted and I most certaily shouldn’t prioritise it over job applications!
So I need to be more disciplined and even (gasp) log off for a while so that I can focus on my CV.

I also find it quite difficult to focus on anything at home. There are too many distractions. Everytime I sit down to do something , especially something boring like writing my CV, I remember that I was meant to put the laundy away, so I do it first, then make a coffee, then tidy the coffee table and so on….

I’ll start dividing my time into half an hour or 15 minute units, as recommended in the Now Habit book. Actually, Hugh Grant does that in About a Boy, doesn’t he? He sees his life as half-hour units :).
I was also thinking that maybe I should set an alarm to go off every half an hour, that way I’d be more conscious of the time. I might try that tomorrow.
OK, best get on with it then….
