Sooner or later I'll be there... 11 months ago

Alright, I’ve been saving money for a couple of months now and I’ve got €335 so far. I know it’s not that much and I need at least €800 for my first month in London (just think about first flat rent, food, flight, moving my stuff over there, flat deposit etc.). Plus I need some money for eventualities. Nonetheless, €1000 would be better. Well, let’s see how much I can scratch together.

I’m trying to get myself a minijob (employment that is deduction-free for employees who earn up to €400 per month) at the moment (not the easiest thing during an economic downturn, I can tell you). I have good prospects of getting a job as kitchen assistant (she’s never called back!!!) .

Oh, before I forget, it can take up to 16 weeks (!!!) after my written exam (on 18th March) before I get to do my oral exam. This means that, if I’m unlucky, it can take until July before I get to move anywhere. I just found this out in the examination requirements they’ve sent me a couple of weeks ago.

I’ll keep track of my money-making progress here.

Money-o-Metre:

€335 Start
€350 (22nd January / + €15)
€370 (30th January / + €20 / 1st instalment for dismantling a railway)
€520 (4th February / + €150 / final instalment for dismantling a railway)
€550 (5th February / + €30 / extra in TV series)
€600 (26th February / + €50 / extra in TV series / was able to save the whole sum / explanation [1])
€540 (1st March / – €60 / bloody insurance fee!!!)
€742.5 (16th March / already got my b-day money from my mom… unbelievable €200!!! / + €2.5 / don’t ask)
€767.5 (17th March / + €25 / from my grandma for my birthday ^^)
€867.5 (April / + €100 / “gov. present”) 1st Finish Line
.
.
.
€1000 2nd Finish Line

TO BE UPDATED WHEN NEW INFORMATION ARE AVAILABLE

P. S. If this works I’ll definitely reach my €800 goal, hence I changed my target and am now striving for the €1000 finish line!!! :D

[1] Hadn’t had to pay my train ticket on my way back home as the 3!!! ticket machines hadn’t accepted my money (no ticket inspector on the train either).

Many a little makes a mickle

Can't wait... 12 months ago

I plan to move to London as soon as I’ve finished my education, which will be around March/April 2009. Though I’ve never been there before, I love the English language, I’ve always wanted to live abroad ever since I was 10 and this town holds so many possiblities for me that it’s basically my springboard to my dreams. My friends are very happy for me, too. They’re waiting unpationately for me to move to London, because everybody is eager to visit me over there xD

Oh, I’d be interested in room-mates or generally people who intend to move to London at around the same time (and are roughly at the same age as me – I’m female, 22). So just leave a message ^^
