I’ve just spent New Years in Tromso, Norway (inside the arctic circle).

Was fortunate enough to have good weather one night while out cross-country skiing and got a great view of the northern lights. Unfortunately my camera was struggling a little bit (more a memory-stick error rather than the cold). But I managed to get a couple of reasonable shots. But when the aurora really kicked off, I didn’t bother taking photos… just stared in awe at the sight.
Was out trying to get a glimpse of them a few days later… but weather was against us. Still, was a lot of fun just tramping around the island in snow-filled forests. Way cool!

The weather in Norway is looking okay but not sure whether there has been enough sunspot activity to give us a chance of seeing some good examples of the northern lights. On an unrelated note, absolutely everyone seems to be on the roads today. traffic is pretty solid. Glad I’m not driving.

...I’ll spend 5 days in the Artic circle. Probably will end up being unlucky and not seeing northern lights at all, but here’s hoping.
It’s going to be cool (Literally) to not see the sun for 5 days in a row. (Actually, that happens here when the weather is shite…)

...are looking at heading to Tromso (Northern Norway) for New Years – spending about a week up there. Fingers crossed we’ll get lucky and see the northern lights. But if not, there are a ton of other things we’ll get up to. Some cross-country skiing, dog sledging, hiking etc..
Looking forward to spending New Years somewhere cold for once too… I normally spend it somewhere really warm!
