28 April 2012 - Done!

Cheated. Refinanced the house. Paid off the credit cards in the process. But at least they’re gone.

As part of the refinance, the bank required that all the credit cards be closed. Initially that was frustrating, but ultimately I am happy about it, as the danger of accruing a staggering balance is much reduced.

I was able to re-open one… ONE… new credit card, which will accrue airline miles when I use it. I think I shall limit myself to this one card.

I will not get into this situation again.

Time to Revisit This

Time to revisit 43Things, revise my goal list, and focus on fewer things.

Paying off the cards is one of those things.

Currently… they’re all maxxed. What an embarrassment.

Here we go again!

This time, “rolling them in” is not an option.

DONE! YAY!

Okay… so… I cheated. I rolled ‘em into a home refinance.

Still, the cards are paid off, I’ve already closed a few of them (and will close most of the remaining once I’ve received an actual “paper statement” showing that zero-dollar balance), and the interest rate on the home loan is far lower than that on the credit cards. My resulting monthly payments are now considerably lower, so I should be able to make some financial headway… knock on wood!

New goal: pay off home mortage!

If I were to edit this goal to read “run up my credit cards,” I’d be in good shape!

Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

Uhm… okay, so, like, I’m a step or two closer to some of my other goals, anyway! The ones that have to do with… uh… buying stuff.

Untitled

Uhm… this is not going very well. :(

Errr… uhhhhh….

I managed to pay off all my cards… okay, so I cheated, I was able to qualify for a home equity loan… and I closed all the accounts but one. So of course….

But I should be able to get that one under control within a few months - if I can avoid eBay and Amazon. After that, the plan is to only use my wonderful PayPal card - that way, I have to actually have the money in the account in order to use it. So far, though, I haven’t had the self-control to stick with that plan.

I’ll have some student loans to deal with a year or two from now, but that shouldn’t be too bad, either, thanx to the Project REACH grant—whew!
