Haven’t sold anything on eBay since the policy changes. But I’ve bought a lot of crap… most of which I seriously doubt that I could re-sell.
My eBay buying days are winding down, I think, due to the number of misrepresented items I’ve purchased lately. A few may have been intentionally misleading, but most are the result of STUPID EBAY SELLERS! People are just… STUPID MORONS! They have NO idea how to describe things.
You’d think by this time I’d have learned to read betweent he lines when shopping on eBay. And for a long time, I was satisfied with most of my purchases. Lately, however, as in the last three or four months, the sellers seem to be getting stupider.
I want to sell a bunch of stuff, and mark this goal as completed, and put my hoarding ways behind me.

The eBay policy changes going into effect on 20 February will severely curtail my ability to achieve this goal through eBay. eBay will no longer be “user-friendly” for low-volume sellers of miscellanea. I am in the process of looking for alternatives for on-line selling.
I find this turn by eBay against small sellers is disheartening.

I had my balance up to (quick international currency calculation) about £150. Then I paid eBay fees. Then I paid for shipping the stuff I sold. Then I… uh… bought some stuff (which I should be able to re-sell for about double). Now I’m down to about £75, which I may have to withdraw to either pay bills or put gasoline (petrol) in the car.
This is the main reason I have such a hard time getting motivated to clean out my junk and sell it on eBay. After all is said and done, I’m left with… nothing!

I KEEP SPENDING THE MONEY!!!!

Apparently I forgot to check the little box in the listing tab requiring “immediate payment” on my currently-listed “Buy It Now” item. My previous items had this requirement, and I used the “list similar” link, so I just sorta figured the “immediate payment required” thing would be automatic. Silly me!
So I have a “Buy It Now” buyer from Sweden who has yet to pay. Gah!
I won’t make that mistake again.
On a related note: it seems like every time I get twenty or thirty dollars (ten or fifteen quid) in my PayPal account, some kind of miscellaneous expense pops up, and there it goes.
Also, listing fees, final value fees, and PayPal fees end up taking a big chunk out of the final selling price. I swear, a triple mark-up on the item still means less than twice the purchase price in profits. And I’m sure not making up for it in volume.
Oh well… once Miss Sweden pays up, I’ll have sold four £10 items over the last three weeks. Slow going, but I have some time off from work coming up, and I plan to assert myself aggressively toward eBay listings, so I hope to achieve, or even exceed, this goal over the next four to six weeks.

My previous eBay goal was simply, “Sell my Junk on eBay.” That was too vague, it didn’t have a clearcut benchmark for success. I’ve replaced that goal with this one. Five-hundred quid, or about a thousand dollars, seems like a fine initial target.
Winter is a good time of year for eBay, in general, except for the couple of weeks leading up to Christmas. So I’d best get to it.
