Need to start a new project…

I have some delicious wool yarn I got last year. Hand painted and very cool. I am going to try to knit in the round and make a hat for the boys.
Now, should I practice with some different yarn first?
My 18 month old got a hold of the prayer shawl I was knitting. This is the 3rd time this has happened. The first time he pulled off the table (I thought it was out of his reach), the second time I left it out and DH saw him playing with it and thought it was OK. I later found out he pulled a bunch of stitches out. I spent 2 days trying to fix it. I had to keep pulling stitches out, and in the end I never did find all original 57 stitches…I had 56, then 58…so I increased and decreased until I had 57 stitches. It’s not terribly obvious.
Now, this morning it was on my night stand from knitting in bed. He got it again, and when I went upstairs there was a bunch of yarn pulled out. I don’t know that I can save it again. I threw it away. But I just took it out of the garbage (it has a new liner in it) and put it up. I figured I would look at it in a couple weeks when the stress of the holidays is behind me. But, it certainly won’t be a Christmas present. It just makes me sick…and I am just not good enough at knitting to pull a bunch of rows out and keep on knitting. Oh well…we’ll see…
I have all of 11 days until Christmas Eve. So, far I have knitted 3 scarves. Only one that is good enough to give as a present. But, I may give only of the other ones anyways…if I can try to repair the one I am thinking of somehow…
Now, I am in the middle of a prayer shawl. I would love to finish it and one more scarf. Eck…so much to do…maybe I should just know pot holders. They are small and square.
I have only found one pair so far that I like. It’s set of bamboo needles I got from an actual yarn shop. I bought a larger pair at Hobby Lobby…another set of circular needles made of bamboo that I don’t like nearly as much. And I really don’t care for metal. I haven’t tried plastic yet. I guess you have to just keep trying ones until you find what you like. I may go back to the yarn shop and get a couple different sizes of the kind I like. They were a bit more expensive. But, if I like them and use them…
is done. I knitted a ribbed scarg. It has tons of errors. but you can’t really tell unless you inspect it. I have started another scarf with some ribbon/eyelash material by yarn bees. Not really sure how to describe it. But, it’s very pretty.
I want to take another lesson from the girl I took one from a few weeks ago. I need to learn to increase and decrease and knit in the round. Until I master a few more skills I don’t think I can mark this as done.
OK – I have started a scarf. Sort of fuzzy yarn. Not that easy to work with really. It’s so furry I keep losing my place. But, I like it because it can be loose and it’s very forgiving. It’s a k2, p2 pattern so I have to remember where I am too. I can’t really recognize the stitch in all the fuzz, lol. I just plan on knitting until it reaches 72 inches…
Well, I made an appt. for a private lesson. For TOMORROW! Hopefully DH won’t care if I go. I am so excited. I told her I wanted to learn to knit in the round so I could make shorties and longies. She of course, had no idea what those were. But, that’s OK. I just have to take DS’s that I have and she’ll help me. Now maybe I can knit on the plane this weekend.
