back to 3 days a week schedule. I am hunting for the elusive ashtanga yoga practitioner. I really want to go back to a regular ashtanga practise

caliper & inch tape....

So there I was peacefully reading a book, standing in line to get my train tickets; I was suddenly accosted by two women and a man holding an inch tape, a mean looking vernier calliper kinda thingy and a questionnaire. They said they were working for a hospital’s well health centre and they wanted to take my measurements and that this would assist in their survey and analysis of local population. 25 odd people in front of me so i said yeah..

While one was asking me questions regarding my life, lifestyle, eating, drinking, sleeping and gazillion other things that ought not to be discussed amongst extremely amused train ticket buyers, the other started getting ready to measure me. I was starting to get embarrassed when I realised that I was already laughing my guts off; Picture me standing there with all these people around me pretending not to see or listen , while one lady is measuring my thigh, the other is studiously writing down measurements and the other guy is explaining why they need these measurements and readings.

Anyway, the whole thing strangely made my day and the next. I kept giggling thinking about how silly I must have looked. I wonder how those folks who were there described it to their friends and family.

I was told that I would be mailed some answers and some recommendations. I forgot about it until today. I actually got a letter from the well health centre. I sincerely thought that I was just being scammed..

I am not sure how to read these results.. Your weight is: 106 pounds
Your sex is: Female
Your Body Fat percentage is: 15
Your Lean Body Mass is: 90 pounds
Your ‘Ideal’ weight is: 110 pounds
Your activity factor is: 0.91
Your activity level is: Very active

Nothing much besides this. I am not sure what to make of the above statistics.. Any thoughts?

5 days a week

It is going to be 5 days a week. The only way 7 days a week yoga is gonna happen is if I develop the self discipline to practise at home. Class timing on Saturday and Sunday don’t work out. Besides my body needs a break :)

Finally happening

It is finally happening. Although I did want to practise Ashtanga, I have not been able to motivate myself to practise at home. Personally, I need the discipline of a class environment. I enjoyed practising with a group of people. Living in Chennai, I am yet to meet somebody who actually knows anything about Ashtanga.

I have started attending yoga classes at Sivananda Yoga ashram. It is very different from Ashtanga in terms of discipline, asanas, etc. The really strange thing is the order of the asanas is nearly the opposite of what is done in Ashtanga. The first main asana is Sirasasna( headstand), followed by Sarvangasana(shoulder stand). To my shaky knowledge of ashtanga and the few other classes (styles) I have attended, these two asanas are nearly always towards the end of a practise..

In any case, I love the feeling that I am doing yoga 4-5 times a week. It is not everyday as yet.. But hopefully it will happen shortly.

Untitled

I used to practise Ashtanga ( primary) thrice a week, did Bikram pretty much everyday .. had lots of time and enthusiasm to spare.

I just can’t see to get over the inertia/lethargy..

One of these days.. I hope to wake up and just do it.
