volunteer my time

I have a new volunteer job at a contemporary art museum that I LOVE! It is like getting to take free art classes.

I really enjoy my volunteer job. Most Saturdays I drive a this really cool former professor to his dialysis appointments. Sometimes, I take other people to doctor appointments, hair appointments, etc.

I have been doing this Ride-Share for awhile now and I do like it. I have been taking this one man to dialysis and a very spunky lady shopping. She has mascular degeneration and can’t see well, so I get to read all the labels for her. I feel very useful and she enjoys getting out for something other than a doctor’s appointment. Gas is a killer, though. It won’t keep me from doing it, because it is selfishness on my part. I really feel I am doing it for myself. I may feel guilty getting a massage, but I will afford the time and money helping someone else. And I end up feeling a little better about myself and the world. Payment enough.

So far I have been driving this one lady to therapy and the grocery staore. I like her a lot!

Wow, I hadn’t realized the extensive background search they have to do before I can volunteer to drive senior citizens to the grocery store. FBI, credit, driving, insurance, everything. They did a better background search on me than when I worked at an elementary school. Now I just have to get the air conditioning working in my van so I don’t kill them from heat stroke.

I’ve asked to volunteer as a ride for the elderly who need to get to the doctors or the grocery store or the beauty shop. I think that would be a useful service. I can’t wait to start!
