ok, but there must be a better way to organise it. I’ve read two books, but I would have liked more discussion and more people to discuss with. I might think a bit more on this. Meanwhile I’m marking it as done.

The Inheritance of Loss? I’ve put my comments on Alentejo Blue on All Consuming. Further contributions from people welcome!
I willpost an entry on All consuming, but I don’t want to spoil the ending for people who haven’t finished it yet. Maybe you can all let me know when you’re ready?
Stacey would like The Inheritance of Loss. Rose would like Alentejo Blue. GlobetrotterI would like to buy books for more than one month because the bookstore is a long distance from where she lives. Why don’t we go for both books to cover the next couple of months or whatever? Then someone can suggest some books for after that. How does that sound?
Haven’t had anyone reply to my team invitation yet, but I figured maybe you are waiting to see what books I suggest? Well here goes.
House of Orphans – Helen Dunmore
Alentejo Blue – Monica Ali
The Inheritance of Loss – Kiran Desai
If you can let me know by 14 Jan what you would like to read, I’ll post an entry advising what has the most votes.
I thought I’d contribute to the 43T online book club by adding a few notes about the latest book I’ve read.
The Painter is a novel based on the possibility that Rembrandt may have travelled to England. The author has done some research that suggests this is plausible, and the details of Rembrandt’s life are fascinating. The story moves between the past and the present, with the main character being Amy who, like Rembrandt, is an artist. There were a lot of parallels drawn between the events in the past and the present, and I found the coincidences sometimes too heavy handed and obvious. I guessed the direction the plot was going in long before things actually happened.
Nonetheless, I did think was an enjoyable read. The story moved along well and the main characters were well-developed. I’d recommend it to people who enjoy historical novels.
Next on the reading list are:-
Blindsight by Maurice Gee
House of Orphans by Helen Dunmore
On listsofbests.com there is a list “Books I have read in 2006”. I’ve started one, thinking this might be a good way for us to share what we are reading or have read, and what we thought about it. I haven’t added everything I have read this year to it yet, but I’ll get around to doing that over the next few weeks.
but I’ll just lurk for another 3 weeks or so while I get this goal out of the way. Then I’ll really want tocatch up on some reading.
Saara, I’d be interested to know how you found the Bedouin book. I have read various reviews, which have been mixed, but it sounds interesting.
