I don’t think this goal is actually attainable for me, but I do keep trying. I’m just naturally overwhelmed and stressed. But whenever I feel myself succumbing to the stress, I ask “will I remember this day/assignment/meeting in 5 years?”. If not, why am I getting so worked up about it?

This is not going well. I’m trying, really I am! Once things settle down in a couple months it will get easier.
This past week has been extremely stressful for me. And next week will be somewhat trying, too. But today I participated in a 5K that put things in perspective. My roommate’s brother in law died in January at the age of 30 from brain cancer. This was no regular man. Although I never got the chance to meet him, anyone can see how well he was loved by the 500+ people that attended his celebration of life ceremony when he passed away. The 5K was to raise money to build a park in his memory. Not only did this walk give me a sense of serenity and unity with the hundred of others, but I was also able to purchase the book he wrote about dealing with his illness. I’ve already read all of it and he gives you some lessons on how to live life. What are these exams, these bouts of drama, these meetings in the long run? This week I’m going to honor him by refusing to be overcome with stress. By looking at the beautiful little things I usually miss. By taking some time for me. By loving life, because it isn’t forever.
Being in college and an accounting major makes this awfully hard. I’m trying to look at the things I stress about in the scheme of things. It usually makes it a little better. If I just attack the task, rather than stress about it, it’s all for the best.
