Understand and Execute My Responsibilities As a Global Citizen

I’m not sure what this goal really looks like yet. I’m still trying to find the path—forget about the finish line. I have started by thinking about my duties as a citizen in my local community. This isn’t actually as easy as it looks. (More on this later.)

Ultimately, I think I want to clarify the relationship between local and global citizenship. Duh. I know that sounds lame. I’m just not explaining very well. So I guess it’s lucky that Everybody and their Commie-Sociologist Brother has probably written a paper on just this topic. I’ve got to go to the library.

But, before I do (and get influenced or side-tracked while trying to get informed), I want to state a tentative hypothesis:

Good global citizenship may start on a local level and flow upwards to the global level, but somehow instead of being a bridge, patriotism (in the US, at least) actually hinders the flow.

Remember to keep in mind:

1. Definition of Community (“global” is not just geographical)
2. Craziness of the Religion Variable (Ideology) (Cultural Norms)
3. (Something Here about Economics)

Alright, now I’m going to start reading about this stuff…

Quest for Folly has gotten 18 cheers on this goal.
