grow asparagus

With the 5th good strong sprout coming up, I figure my asparagus plant is well on the way to becoming established. I’ll leave the new shoots on again for this year – next year I will start to take a few to eat.

Last year I thoroughly prepared a patch for my asparagus. I’ve tried to grow asparagus before but with very little success; I’d get very few and very spindly shoots come up and the last plant died off. This time I’ve taken more care and actually planted it correctly. Last year I had a few good shoots come up. This year the first 2 shoots have come up looking very strong and promising. I’m keen to see how well this patch will go this year, I’m not a big asparagus eater so I’ve only put in one plant.
