I’ve lost 5 pounds in a little over two weeks. At this rate I’ll be 240 by mid-July. The goal is 220 by October, so as long as I keep this pace I’m right on schedule.

I signed up for MyFitnessPal.com with my wife the other day in an attempt to make counting calories an effortless enterprise. As it turns out, I have frequently been eating way too few calories in a day. This means my metabolism is probably crap, which explains why all this walking the past few months has gotten me nowhere. So, strangely… to lose weight, I am actually making an effort to increase my calorie intake. Life insists on confusing me at every turn.
Two days ago I began to work out for the first time in about a year. I walk a lot every day, but that in itself doesn’t seem to have much effect and hasn’t quite prepared me for working out again either. So I’m having to take it slow and work up to the level of exercise I used to be able to do. Meanwhile, I have made a serious effort to start eating better at home and stop eating fast food. Within the week I intend to set up a log book of both calorie/sodium intake and daily exercise. Hopefully I will remain determined enough to stick with it on my own. As of now, I weigh about 247 pounds. I expect that to be less than 240 by the start of August.
