A mallard has a nest near our front door. I’m having a new experience, learning about this process these ducks have. How did I miss out on this before? Where was I that day in school when everyone else got their duck education? Anyway, this female mallard comes around every day to lay another egg until a clutch of 10-12 eggs are ready for incubation. I’ve seen her in the mornings. From a distance I can see there are more and more leaves built up where the first two eggs were spotted. I think the first egg was laid a week ago Thursday, so the incubation may be starting soon. Then, in 25-29 days, we may need to make way for ducklings!
It’s fulfilling to discover and delight in nature right outside our window.
