live in a commune

I think the new plan is to start my own. More of an artist’s collective than a commune, and it will have an urban and a rural branch.

I’m a communist, in at least one old sense of the word. I’d like to put my ideals to the test by starting or at least living on a commune. To me, this means being self-supporting (I’d like to grow our own food, plus produce cheese or honey to supplement), without hierarchy, and with time left over for artistic pursuits.

What I don’t want is a lot of drama born of everyone sleeping with every other one.

Seriously, when I look around, it seems like a lot of communes are based around the idea of free love. I don’t care who or what people screw, but I don’t need the inevitable hurt feelings and recriminations that come from so many people living in close quarters and behaving immaturely.

Is there anyway around this, short of forbidding sex altogether? That seems to work well for monestaries.
