I got my leave request approved, May 7-15. Woohoo!

Now must plan what to do with it. Hmmm…

I sent Mr. London a very explicit invitation that cannot be ignored or danced around. It should be less scary than others because, even though he would have to travel, it would involve getting together with his family and my friends. Specifically, I’m trying to organize a vacation rental house for a week on the coast of Maine. It’s a shlep to get there but it should be totally fun for all involved, and, truthfully, I’ve been wanting to do this with various friends for a while. These are my friends who, these days, are so close as to almost be family, and he knows them all quite well, too. (i.e., his brother and sister-in-law, and sis-in-law’s sister)

And even if he wiggles out of it, as long as I can get 3 or 4 other people, it’ll still be fun for me!

I found out that Mr. London’s mum was on Facebook (I’m sure he set it up himself, so she could look at pics of his baby nephew). I was worried that she would harass him with questions if she noticed me commenting on him all over the place, leaving haikus on his wall, etc., so I just asked him if I should tone down the public flirting (which my sister disagrees constitutes flirting, but she’s wrong).

I’m tempted to quote him, but that seems over the top, so I’ll just paraphrase – he said, essentially (but in a cuter, more British way), keep flirting, and let people talk if they want.

Yay, he’s in!

this may not sound like fun, but... 10 months ago

I just bought a book of British history, to enrich my upcoming trip! (And to avoid sounding like an eejit when I get there.)

srsly... 10 months ago

Having fun is what this post is all about.

Romance? Who knows? There might be none, or it might suck. But if so, it will suck in London. So, really, how badly can it suck? Worst comes, I have a friend I can crash with in Cambridge, and there’s a credit card for a hotel. And I can still have fun.

I did have quite a bit of fun today, even though I was awake for a couple hours in the middle of the night worrying about work again.

In the morning, even though I was wheezing a bit, I went and played tennis with LHC, and to my surprise I not only didn’t collapse but I played for a good hour and a half, and did really well. After that, puttered for a while at home, walked down to Cleveland Park to get my hair cut, and then back (they couldn’t fit me in, but I was happy to have the walk). Then drove to a house party for a Green Party City Council candidate, where I saw a few people I knew (including the dark-haired cellist, who’d sent me the invite), and stopped in Mt. Pleasant for some takeout: pollo a la brasa. Tonight I’ve been filling out financial paperwork and doing laundry. It hasn’t even occurred to me to be bummed or lonely that I’m not out doing something fancy with a date.

I’m just glad to have energy back after bronchitis.

I adopted it for a few reasons.
  • to see how other people define “fun” and what they would write
  • to help myself keep in mind that, while a lot of things suck right now, actively pursuing fun is one good way to deal with it
  • to remember that I can try to have fun even within aspects of my life that suck; it’s not all about getting off at work at 6 and partying it up
  • because I can overanalyze anything, even fun
