This goal

is meant to cover several sub-goals: learning about the UK, being outdoors, staying in shape, and bonding with A. The first was his Auntie Leontia’s idea – don’t work for the first few months, just get to know England and settle in. Works for me!

Anyway, this week we got on a train to the Chilterns, got off the train at Wendover, and hiked up Coombe Hill to a Boer-War monument. We got a little muddy, but ended up in a nice café that had ok tea and coffee but unusually yummy chocolate desserts (and, um, had a pint of Fuller’s ESB in a pub before getting on the train back). I had been meaning to eat a warm brownie with ice cream for lunch for a long time, and today I got my chance!
