for an evening when TV is bad, so that I can get something else done at the same time. But BBC is just too good, and demands my full attention! Right now watching an excellent show on the history of Scotland in the 17th century – Protestants vs. Anglicans, Prince Charles vs. Cromwell, &c.
In trying to sell my car, I’ve now had two suggestions that I donate it to charity, and get a tax donation. It’s just a few years old, has <20,000 miles on it, and I reckon - based on comparables, and the online blue book - it's worth about $12,500.
I haven’t worked, to speak of, in two months. Am I a selfish yuppie scum for thinking that that’s too much potential cash to just kiss goodbye?
screamed at me today in the hallway for no good reason (as if there could be one) and made me cry. (Apparently I failed to express sufficient gratitude for a lead he gave me to a contractor.) He actually told me he couldn’t wait for me to move out – we’ve lived next to each other for 8 years, and I had no idea he had any issue with me at all!
In the end, I realize he’s just a crazy person who has problems with women; he once similarly freaked out on the nicest, quietest woman in the building, and made her cry, too.
Very sad.
to Todd, Matty or however he spells it now, Hippie Pig, Roxy, and Cookie for the lovely postcard! So you’re not just imaginary friends after all, apparently!... woohoo!
Re-entering anyway… My brain is still in a million fragments but I am putting one foot in front of the other.
Have missed everyone and hope you’re all doing splendidly!

So, A (formerly Mr L) and I are going to Maine next week, and renting a house about 10 miles from where my Dad and stepmom live. When she started proposing plans I said that we would definitely spend some time with them – e.g., some dinners, cultural events, and maybe a day trip – but we would probably want to spend a fair amount of time by ourselves.
This morning she emailed me to tell me she wanted to set up a vegan potluck that she hosts every summer, and that she had four possible dates, only one of which would be when we were there, and that was for a Sunday afternoon, the day after we arrived. After consulting A I told her to set it up for whatever day worked for her, because we would probably want to be out and about and seeing Maine. (That was as much diplomacy as I could muster.)
So she wrote back saying try to set it up for that Sunday and it would be really nice if we could be there, and then emailed her group of friends, and me, to say that she was trying to schedule it for that Sunday because I would be in town, but that another day might work just as well.
Sigh. So now, either because I wasn’t clear enough or because she didn’t want to hear it, I have to feel like a jerk for missing her party. Or just sucking it up and going.
Dammit, it’s summertime and I just want to be outside exploring Maine with A, and we only have 6 days!

Stainless steel strands, twisted in multiples, shot through with copper, then wound again, for strength:
Family, music, language, laughter, outlook, poetry.
Art, politics, nature, joy, strong ale. Life.
Optimism, passion. YouMeUs.
More music, more joy. Health.
More family. Simple love.
God. Nature. Dreams.
Outrage. Strong tea.
Hurrah, more joy!
Future. Hope.
Still more music, and as much joy as we could want.
Thank heavens, more us.
All of the strands wrapped in us, and us in them.
All wound, rewound, and wound yet again, all together, for strength.
(Or meal, perhaps.) It’s a big Mexican vegetarian salad (lettuce, black beans, corn, cheese, salsa, and guacamole), scooped up with tortilla chips, and washed down with a beer.
What could be more perfect?
Can’t post it on Facebook, but have to share… so if you haven’t read about it already, here you are.
Totally cracking up.
God, I’m so juvenile sometimes
