We signed the lease today (6 months starting December 1). We put a bunch of stuff up on Craigslist, and today we started putting stuff up for free and it started going quickly! Most stuff is out of the old place now. We will be trying to get rid of the last things tomorrow, and I will need to spackle a few of the nail holes in the wall, get some candle wax out of the carpet, and clean. Then I will get the carpet cleaned and maybe professional cleaning if I don’t have time to do it properly.
And give the keys back to the building manager.
And unpack in my new home.
That’s it!

Spent a huge chunk of Saturday packing up stuff in my old apartment and ferrying it over to the new place. Then we got a U-haul this morning and spent the whole day taking care of details: picking up my TV box from the guy who was storing it, dropping off my friend’s chest (which I was keeping for her) with her other friend who is taking it over, and of course the moving itself. C and I took some of his furniture which we’ll be selling on Craigslist over to my old place, and then my friend B came over and we loaded up the big furniture to take over to our new place. It was all easy enough getting it in the truck, but once we got back to C’s, it was extremely challenging getting my big couch in the door.
We finally got that all done, returned the truck, and then C and I tried to make some order out of chaos. Still tons to be done: the Tetris-like puzzle of making our furniture fit into his apartment, cleaning, selling stuff, getting rid of stuff, etc. But I am home in the new place and I have internet! Yippee!
We are slightly premature because various delays mean I haven’t actually signed the lease here, and I technically have the old place until the 30th. I will mark this goal complete when I’m on the lease here and I no longer have any stuff in the old apartment.
Gosh, I’m exhausted. It was a stressful week and a stressful weekend. I didn’t do any schoolwork at all. But I’m really, really happy. :D

We got a dresser from IKEA. We assembled it. We both threw out old socks. We moved all my clothes in. I don’t think I will ever sleep in my old apartment again.
Next weekend, we plan to move big furniture, and then list the stuff we’re getting rid of on Craigslist. And the following weekend is the emergency clearing out of my old apartment.
My building manager let in the assessment team for the pre-moveout inspection of my old place today. They will let me know what needs to be fixed up, etc. to avoid losing my deposit.
There are still lots of things to do, but this morning I woke up in the new place and felt like it was home.
One bad thing: there is some stress over the fact that his property management company is now trying to make us sign a long-term lease. Yesterday he was talking about aborting the move and switching directions – moving back into my old place! I might be acting unreasonable but I don’t wanna!in very whiney voice
It will all work out.

I got up at his place our place, left my computer and my phone charger there, went to work… came home to his place our place, changed and went to the yoga studio, came home and took a shower…
Wow, this is starting to feel real! (And we’re both still excited about it. YAY!)
Still the problem of all the stuff that’s at my old place, but we’ll be fixing that one soon enough.

and moving some stuff in today. Had no idea how much stuff I really have. It’s crazy! No idea how it’s all going to fit in C’s one bedroom. We talked about storage and I think it’ll be necessary. Going to get rid of as much as I can… and we’d like to move into a bigger place eventually but don’t want to deal with that right now.

Looking at a calendar yesterday, we realized that we will need to get a truck and move all the big stuff the weekend of November 14-15! Yep, like 2.5 weeks away. I haven’t packed hardly anything up yet! But if we don’t do it then, we’ll likely have to push things into December or even next year, and we don’t want to.
Better get cracking, I guess. Starting with the enormous mountain of empty boxes behind my desk at work. Gotta get them home and get my stuff into them. Glad I’ll have the weekend at home to do this, and get caught up (hopefully) on school.
Also, I need to give notice with my rent this week. Looks like it’ll be for November 30.

this past weekend, but he had some time at home. I worked on reading and assignments; he went through his stuff. I can’t explain it exactly, but I was moved to see the bits of his past coming out of his closet. I feel very honored that he is willing to go through stuff that he’d buried so that he can start this new life with me. Plus it’s always interesting to see pictures etc. from your lover’s past.
Some anxiety came up this weekend (on his part – I’ve done this before and so well aware of my fear surrounding this move). I was relieved to hear his concerns… I was worried he thought this was going to be a purely blissful experience. Happy to put the worries on the table and talk about what the challenges are going to be. I haven’t done this so consciously before. The respect and care we share is amazing. I’m happy to know we’re already talking about ways to maintain our own space and to deal with our differences in a functional way.
I’m nervous. Changes always make me nervous. But I’m also really excited. I think this is going to be awesome.
I love my man. I do. =D
