My aim is to find a pair of shoes I like and buy two pairs, so that I can break in the second pair but have them be new-ish when I run the marathon. Three pairs wouldn’t hurt…
I already have an idea of shoes I’ve liked in the past. My plan is to go to a running store and have them advise me.

I’m finally educating myself about running stores in San Diego. In my hometown, I’d know exactly where to go but I have no idea where to find what I need here. Google gives these suggestions:
Road Runner Sports:
5553 Copley Drive, San Diego, CA 92111 (858)974-4455
http://www.roadrunnersports.com/
The Running Institute of San Diego
4760-B Mission Gorge Place, San Diego, CA 92120 (619)265-7374
http://www.sdri.net/
Movin Shoes
La Mesa: 6105 Lake Murray Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942 (619)466-1656
Encinitas: 897 S. Coast Hwy 101 #101, Encinitas, CA 92024 (760)634-2353
Pacific Beach: 1892 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109 (858)373-2310

Yelp seems to heavily favor SDRI, with many reviewers saying their staff is really knowledgeable. Many of those reviewers seem to be serious runners, logging the kinds of distances I will be running. People mostly seem to like Movin Shoes as well. Reviews for Road Runner are heavily polarized.
I guess I might just have to shop around. It’s unfortunate that none of the stores are particularly convenient for me.

before the marathon and will need new shoes. They will have to be carefully selected. I don’t even know where to go in this city. LOL. Research first, then shopping.
