Get a tattoo

For my birthday, my husband and I are going to get fox sparrow tattoos! (Our last name is Foxsparrow.) They’ll be different designs, and it will be fun. I am going to do a drawing with the pose in this picture. I’m going to make the orange bolder, use slate blue where the grey is and add hints of yellow and lime green. I’m really psyched! Now to find a great tattoo artist!

I’m not sure if I want to continue this goal. My husband has three tattoos…one he got when he was young and single, one he got with his ex, and his wedding band that he got on our wedding day. He hates the one he got with his ex because it reminds him of her and it wasn’t what he wanted in the first place. (I actually kind of like it and it’s one of my favorite spots to kiss, but whatever) It makes me wonder if I’ll regret my choice later. I’ve always planned to get a tattoo for my own reasons, so I don’t think I will regret it because of someone else, but maybe I’ll regret it for other reasons. I’m too undecided about it. Also, Mark seems sad whenever I mention getting one. For some reason, he seems to like that I don’t have one. Not that I would let that stop me if I was set on getting one.

I guess I just won’t plan to get one until I’m absolutely sure that it’s what I want. There are so many beautiful tattoos out there that it is really tempting to just do it. Hmmmm…

Well, I found a great place and a great artist, but I chickened out. I still haven’t found a design I am sure of. I was going to get one for my wedding last week, but changed my mind at the last minute. Mark (my new husband!!!) got our new name tattood in sanskrit on his ring finger. It looks so good and the guy who did it was amazing, so at least now I know where I can get it done once I finally have a design I know I will love. At least it’s progress.

Tattoos are so common these days, I’ve been holding out to make sure I get something really special. My fiance and I are getting tattoos for our wedding—my first and his third. He’s getting his wedding band tattood (his idea, but not my name, because he doesn’t like jewelry). We’re still working on what I’m going to get. Our wedding will have a Japanese theme and for a Valentine present, I got Mark a book of Japanese family crests. They are so graphic, symbolic and beautiful. I thought it would be cool to make our own family crest. I’m planning to incorporate a lotus blossom and two birds.

My next mini-goal will be to get the drawing ready. So exciting!
