I’ve been meaning to do this for ages: get myself on the mailing lists of bands and artists I like so I know when they’re gigging and don’t miss out on anything.
Better just do it now, eh?

I realized that, if I want to go to any more gigs in the near future (especially of new bands that I haven’t seen play before) I have to discover more Israeli music. I asked a friend who’s quite informed in terms of the music scene here and he graciously sent me links to a number of sites of bands and artists and venues, most based around Tel Aviv. Yay! Now I just need to check them out and hopefully I’ll have a lot more options when scanning the gig listings…
every time I check the listings, there simply isn’t anybody playing that I want to see. It’s always Beatles tribute bands and, as much as I like Beatles tribute bands, I don’t want to see them play every week.
Thinking long-term, though, it looks like my bf and I really will be moving back to London in another seven months or so, and so I’ve been fantasizing about all the bands we’ll get to see, and even going to Glastonbury…
I haven’t had my attention on this goal recently. I guess I’ve been tired, getting used to my new jobs, and by the time the weekend rolls round I’m quite happy to collapse on the sofa and watch a DVD rather than going out and shaking my booty.
But this is going to happen. I promise.
I love live music and I was lucky enough to grow up in London where ALL bands come to play at some point! During my teens and early twenties I went to loads of gigs, got to see all my favourite bands play and was often going to several gigs a month. I love the feeling of totally losing myself in the music; it’s one of the most exciting things I can think of.
For the last four years, though, I’ve been living in Israel and HARDLY ANY bands tour Israel! I guess the security situation scares them. I do go to gigs here from time to time but it’s usually only once every few months. There are some good Israeli bands and artists and, although I couldn’t get as excited about seeing them as, say, the Strokes, or the White Stripes, it’s still great to go out and dance my arse off.
I would like to try and go to a gig once a month or so. I’m going to start checking the listings on a weekly basis. And investigate more Israeli music. I know there are more Israeli indie bands out there; I just don’t know who they are yet.
