She’s my mom’s best friend in Taiwan. Maybe even now, I don’t know. But I’ve known her since I was very young. Mom and I would meet her at cafes and they would chat for hours. I would sit beside my mom adding sugar to my water so it would be sweet. It never really worked, but I liked to do it anyway.
After coming here in America, she continuously wrote to my mom with letters and greeting cards. I don’t know if my mom ever replied, because she’s kind of a lazy person (I am, too). Couple of years passed, and she stopped writing. Maybe it’s because mom never replied.
Just this past March/April, I went back to Taiwan again with my mom. I kept encouraging her to call her friend up. I mean.. if not then when would she have the chance to talk to her again?
Finally, they met up and Aunty Jiang started tearing up just seeing my mom & seeing me. I was kind of shocked.. I didn’t know how to react cept just smile at her.
We went out to eat at this Viet Restaurant and she said that she used to go there all the time with my mom. But my mom doesn’t remember.. haha.
Anyway, they started chatting about everything. I just listened as usual. I realized then, that she was a strong character. She has some kind of element that I would say exists in my cousin Allison. Strong-headed, able to speak her mind without backing out. She encourages people to do the right thing and stand up to people. I know this is a lot of statement about a person whom I barely know that much and just met up again. But I can feel it, and in all the stories she told my mom I can feel that she is an able individual.
Yeah, I’m not good at describing how I feel about her.. or anyone for that matter. All I know is that she is definitely someone great.
