Spent a few weeks without a PC, and did not manage to keep to this goal. I have a PC again, and I’m picking up where I left off :-)

Its now day 4 of 25-minutes-of-haskell a day, round 2.
Anticipating the dip and putting in place strategies to get through it.
Been tinkering with Haskell for years now.
The new strategy (tying in to the Pick and Commit goal):
Do 30 minutes of Haskell a day, until I’m through http://book.realworldhaskell.org/read.
Been a week, thus far :-)
The HHGG to Haskell is a useful guide, after you know a bit of Haskell.
Worked through the first bit, while avoiding doing some other work over the weekend.
Other things have been keeping me away from this goal, but I found some time today and rapidly progressed to chapter 7 in YAHT. The (very little) Lambda Calculus background I created is helping a lot.
I should have thought of this a long time ago:
MIT OpenCourseWare contains all the course material of the courses at MIT. Sure enough, they have one that seems interesting:
Multithreaded Parallelism: Languages and Compilers
The list of lecture notes looks like fun.
This email got send to the haskell-cafe mailing list today: Functional Programming lecture on video.
It seems there are 16 lectures in Functional Programming using Haskell as the teaching language. 16 lectures! The education I missed out on at university!
However. Its 12G worth of data. South Africa’s ADSL access has a 3G per month cap. So if I use my whole allotted bandwidth per month, it will take me 4 months to get this!
If I decided to buy more bandwidth which comes in 3G packages, it will cost me about 150$ to get this.
“Will work for bandwidth”
or more accurately “Will move to a first world country for bandwidth”
“Continuation Passing Style” is giving me headaches.
Got sort of stuck for a while. But past that now.
On an even more positive note, found someone that is willing to study Scheme with me. Which then becomes the next one I’ll do it seems.
Instead of studying, I started YAHT
Completed the first 3 chapters, with exercises. I think I’m going to enjoy this language a lot.
Now, I probably need to forget about it for a week to get to the exam.
