all i really need to know... 2 years ago

my new bible is a wonderfully funny book from Dave Marinaccio titled All I Really Need To Know I Learned From Watching Star Trek.

my little sister got it for me for my b-day and it simply made my day. i managed to read more than 60 lessons on my flight to london – i laughed, i cried and attracted more than one raised eyebrow ;) but this one is going on `the sacred shelf`.

as the introduction says: everything you need to know is there somewhere. it may be dressed in some really lame costume. but it`s there. :)

like this one, a part of a lesson about what `beam me up scotty` means…

`for example: you`ve forgotten your spouses anniversary. at the moment your spouse discovers your blunder, you simply say, beam me up scotty. in an instant mr. scott will beam you directly to the bridge and out of trouble.
maybe not.` :D

not having the net at home... 2 years ago

... means i have a lot to make up for ;)

lets start with alexander mccall smith – the no.1 ladies detective agency

i love love love this book. it describes the kind of innocence in people in africa – they are so naive so pure… life is simple and honest…

i know someone who worked in africa for a decade and he claims the same thing. the culture of people there is so different than our wester competitive, cruel and cold culture… people are friendly and hard working but feel little need to compete…

i understand that there r many problems in africa but… i m sure a lot can be done to preserve the innocence, the purity of its people…

(...a plan is forming in my mind…)

after the lon con 2 years ago

just after i returned from the london star trek convention, my wonderful boyfriend bought me a book on star trek religions! waw, this should be interesting! :)

read to write 2 years ago

it’s so interesting – ever since i started writing, i realised i read a bit differently – i take notice on how much time the author takes to explaine certain things and relations, how fast the action is described, how late in the book the secrets are revealed, h0ow many characters there are…

it gave me some confidence, i relaxed a bit. my creation is much better now and i realised all you need is practice really…

however because of my exams i’m reading a bit less of fantasy and a bit more on research methodology – nothing i’d want to bore you with ;)

I am reading William Shatner’s book “Captains blood” and i am loving it!

To be honest, i am extremely subjective on this one cos Captain James T. Kirk was my first TV crush :) i was sooo young but i loved the way he ended up topless in nearly every episode ;)

The book is really well written. I love how he connects the characters from the original series, the new generation and voyager PLUS he introduces things, species and situations never seen before.

Once picked up, you cannot put it down. just wonderful!!!!

arthur c. clarke award winner but i can't imagine why 3 years ago

but i don’t get it

it’s called Divine Endurance but i just don’t get it. i’ve read 3/4 of it and i still don’t understand half of the things described. this planet it supposed to be run by women BUT when they reach puberty they are forced… practicaly raped (by their relatives if i may add!!!!) so they can give birth to children. if they fail to become pregnant, they are expelled from the society. i can’t imagine a woman allowing that to happen to another female. and men are princes and rulers and warriors and… and the main character (a woman) falls in love and has sexual relationship with someone (a girl which is actually an android) who looks 15 years old. i just don’t get it. i don’t understand the system, the relationships, nothing is specified… i find this writer has some serious issues if she can produce stuff like this. i fail to understand how this book got PRINTED not to mention won an award.

you know what, i’m gonna write you a PROPER book on how a world looks like when it’s run by WOMEN!

i gotta hurry up, it’s sunday and i havent finished the da vinci code – oh, watching the world cup is taking way too much time ;)

a book for this week 3 years ago

just started reading the davinci code – i didnt really wanna read it, since everyone else did, and i knew the story from before, from the discovery channel and – of course – the alias (rimbaldi was a direct reference to da vincis work). but since the movie came out and my boyfriend wants to see it with me, i said, ok and started reading it. it was quite disappointing in the begining (i am at the page 105) but my bf says it’ll get better… keeping my fingers crossed that it does!
