make plans

Often I go through the day without a plan and as a result I’m not productive. Procrastination tends to be automatic. S.M.A.R.T. planning is helpful to avoid procrastination.

putting limits on time sinks

I need to spend less time on facebook. But a lot of my friends from massage school post stuff there.

DTV

I purchased a digital converter box and I now get about 20 services over the air. I spend too much time watching the local news stations. I need to kill the TV again.

Q: what happened to the weekend?

A: I let time sinks get out of hand.

I wasn’t focused on priorities and ended up doing the things that weren’t important. It’s okay if you don’t get everything done that you wanted. It isn’t okay if the only things you get done are unimportant.

daily planning

I’ve been failing to write out a daily plan for the past few days. As a result I’ve not been productive.

I have a daily reminder set from this goal to email me each day to write out a daily plan. I also have started using my google calendar for reminders for non-goal related items.

woo hoo!

I had a really productive day today. All I need to do is keep having really productive days for the rest of my life…

30 day progress

It has been 30 days since I listened to the Time Management seminar by Randy Pausch. Notes from that lecture are available online but I found it helpful to take some notes of my own.

I think that I have been utilizing my time more efficiently but there is still a HUGE room for improvement. Specifically I can plan better. I’m still wasting large amounts of time and I struggle with tracking that time in a journal.

To improve I’m going to focus on daily planning. When I get up everyday, I’m going to draft out a list the things I’m going to accomplish and how completing those things will make my day fantastic. And I’ll allow myself to celebrate even if I don’t finish everything as long as I make progress on the important things.

Tracking my time with a time journal has been difficult. It isn’t a technically challenging task but it requires awareness of how you spend your time and a consistent focus. I’m going to improve my awareness of how I spend/waste time.

Time Management

I enjoyed the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch but then I found that he also did a lecture on Time Management. I also enjoyed this seminar.

This lecture is available through iTunes and is also available through YouTube

Jackie Speier

I was listening to a STVP ETL podcast that featured Jackie Speier and Deborah Collins Stephens. There were two things that stuck with me from this lecture. First was the question, What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? And the other was LISDIN – Life Is Short Do It Now.

right now

I skipped going into the gym this morning because I was tired. I told myself that I would go after a quick nap. The quick nap lasted much longer than it should have and I didn’t get into the gym. Being tired was a terrible excuse. I would have felt better after a workout anyways.

I need to remember the power of the moment and work on doing things now. I heard a piece of financial advice on saving 10% of your income. It said that if you won’t save 10 cents from a dollar you won’t take $1000 from $10000. Don’t put things off until later. Later may never happen.

Missing today’s workout was bad. Tomorrow will be better. I’m going to get the things I want from my life. I’m not going to wait for tomorrow. I’m going to work on my things right now.
