I recently bought a compilation of everything Oscar Wilde’s ever written…and I’m loving every page. He had to be one of the wittiest, most insightful, audacious, & revolutionary thinkers of his time. I’d love to pay my respects someday.
QUESTION: Do you think he’d see the whole kissing thing as disrespectful, as his grandson seems to think so? Go here to read his angry comment about the “vulgar” grave kisses: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=817900
Personally, I don’t know. I had the impression that he’d get a laugh out of it. One would think a man as rebellious as Wilde, who was the British embodiment of the decadent & aesthetic movements (in opposition to overly uptight Victorian moralism, for goodness sake!), wouldn’t take such offense at these obvious acts of love. Hmm.
