I stayed in Spain and Guatemala for 4 months each. I’m not sure if that counts as ‘living’ somewhere, since it wasn’t a whole year in one place. But it did teach me a lot about what it means to be a foreigner.
Overall, I did not enjoy Spain (long story). But I had the time of my life in Guatemala! I went there alone, which is the best way to go, in my opinion. That way you have a completely clean slate, a purely self-created experience, and you make new friends.
I definitely want to live abroad again.
