I had the worse food poisoning ever two weeks ago. What was supposed to be a nice lunch out (I usually eat at my desk – which I’ve vowed to stop doing).
What was supposed to be a nice lunch out with a co-worker turned into two days of missed work and a serious committment to eat at home more. I’ve actually been afraid to eat out – anywhere which has worked out well. I’m saving money, I’ve lost a couple of pounds and I generally feel better. I’m sure the fact that I’m eating a lot of rice and beans isn’t hurting either.
So, I guess getting food poisoning isn’t all bad, right?

I’ve given it up. Not because I want to eat out less, but the idea of eating the very chickens, pigs and cows I love makes me uncomfortable. If I love them so much how can I then eat another one of them? I gave up beef about 6 months ago and planned to gradually give up chicken and pork.
And then.
And then Martha Stewart did story on her chickens and I thought about the many chickens in my neighborhood. (You’d bee surprised at how many chickens call my neighborhood home.)
How can I find them cute and understand them being someone’s pet, but eat another one? I can’t. So I’ve given up meat.
I am not giving up dairy – and yes, I believe you can responsibly get milk, butter and eggs from animals without them having to die.
I do not think I’ll be able to give up seafood. I was born in New Orleans.

I’m doing better at this. It isn’t easy with school, work and volunteering, but I’m making a conscious choice to make small meals at home rather than going out to lunch daily or dinner after a long day.

If I eat out less it will help me reach three other goals on my list.
