I still used Myspace periodically to keep track of friends, and today it was hacked, my password changed, and all of my friends deleted. My heart just sank, not because OMGZ MYSPACE but because some of these people really are too lazy to get ahold of me ANY OTHER WAY. It made me realize how many of these people probably aren’t true friends since they can’t be bothered, and now I have no way to get ahold of them, not even by phone or IM. It makes me sick. Especially since I’m not bothering with Myspace anymore.

Getting away from Myspace was absolutely worth doing, and it’s structure made it very easy to not want to spend time there anymore: the sheer volume of inane bulletin surveys people post in an attempt to get attention, the large amount of porn profiles or people who want 8,000 fake friends attempting to add me, and the amount of promotions of crappy bands and movies and annoying ads with sounds. Bye bye Myspace!
I did this a few months ago, and wound up missing out on info about events I needed. So, as addictive as it is, and ‘trendy’ as it is, it’s also become a really valuable resource since I’ve been away from home (at college) and a lot of college orgs have posted their events on the bulletins. Oh! Plus bands I like post most of their tour dates up there…
I give up, I succumb! In one day I found 3 awesome people on there, 2 of them new friends and one an editor/writer I adore. I cannnn’tt stopppp!
this is starting to get easier! slowly!
it particularly helps when the creepiest inbred guy msgs you from myspace wanting to hook up. Hahahaha.
In an attempt to get myself off myspace so much, I had to realize why I use it. I use it to keep contact with friends. So, I decided to make an address book with their names, ph #’s, IM names, email addys. Well, guess what I realized? Myspace.com has no actual encouragement of contact outside of the website. There’s no place to put your email address, or your IM names. In fact, to contact someone, you send a msg right through the site, rather than to their email! Maybe this is how people become hooked? There’s no way to contact people outside of the site unless you know them in person or outside of the site, or the person thinks to give you their IM name or email address. Just a thought.
I need to get away from that evil site! I’m really annoyed that a lot of people use it as their sole means of getting ahold of people and communicating…guess I will be losing their friendships unless they can deal with using email, IM, or a phone (or real life)! OH WELL! I no longer have a need to chill on a website that was recently pwned by Rupert Murdoch. Now I just need to break the addiction of going there every half hour to see if I got any new messages!
