practice guitar

When I moved I left behind my great teacher and I have not found one here yet. But I will. I want to make music – just for myself. Just to be able to sing and accompany myself. I am all over the map with my businesses and nonprofit, etc. – but that is all the more reason to set aside the time for music and art in my life. I spend so much time doing what I ought – or trying to, paying that lip service, etc. – rather than following my bliss, as Joseph Campbell advises. Music and art feed my soul, are the well-spring of my creativity, and everything in my life benefits from art – my health and well-being, my businesses, my loved ones and friends. Time to align with my true values.

After trying to buy my daughter a guitar for the last couple of years, she suggested that maybe I was being vicarious and should consider buying one for myself. Thought about it a year or so, and a couple of months ago bought myself a steel string guitar and started taking blues guitar lessons. I was afraid that I would have to learn things along the lines of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” but Potter started me off on Salty Dawg Blues and 12 bar blues variations. Problem is that I have not been practising regularly – need to develop that habit of playing/practicing everyday
