My current lover has been serendipitously in my life for over ten years now!
When I moved back to my hometown after 8 years away I kept going to a specific bar circuit. Herein lies this one musician, old school rockabilly, whom I’m told is a “drunken womanizer” so I keep my distance. My friends reminded me that said fellow (Let’s call him C.) had played a concert at my Junior high in grade 8!
We become aquaintances but he was taken, as was I so we drank together on occassion an a purely platonic level. During drunken blunt conversations we’d wax indignant on our poor relationships, and assure each other that eventually someone would understand us…
After both of our relationships fell apart at once I went to one of his gigs to offer up a dinner for friends. We went, and before we knew it, trying to stay friends was completely impossible. We started seeing each other and it turns out that during the years that I was away he lived across the street from my Mother, and that although they didn’t know each other they’d had numerous brief encounters about the neighbourhood going-ons.
I think there’s a time and a place for everything. He could’ve come into my life before but he didn’t until we were both ready.
Talk about serendipity.
