Now saving for retirement

I’m making enough to live, have fun and save. I’m going to open a Roth IRA in a couple of months (because my company won’t give me a 401K until I’ve worked here for a year).

Got a decent job.

Let’s just say, my rent only consumes 16% of my pre-tax income. I think a reasonable figure is supposed to be something like 33%.

Life is pretty good when you have disposable income, good benefits and no debt.

This isn't going so well.

I overdrew my account for the second time ever a few days ago. I went to take out money for the train and a cup of coffee and noticed my balance was at -$0.11.

I figure I’ll be more responsible with money when it’s actually money I’m making on my own. I think I’m pretty responsible now: I rarely buy anything I don’t actually need. Purchases this month that were not necessary: 1) hosting renewal, 2) WoW subscription, 3) a few beers.

Some days, to feel less guilty about the money I spend, I make up lists of things I thought about buying but then restrained myself. My favorite was not buying beer to drink while the State of the Union.
