Yippee!!! I got my A-license! 3 years ago

It took almost a year, due to weather and funds, but I finally did it! Woohoo! Now I’m on the search for a deal on the very expensive equipment. BUT, it’ll be worth it and maybe one day I’ll even get enough jumps and skills done to be a camera flyer. Yet another goal. Blue skies!

Earning the nickname "Upchuck" 3 years ago

So, I did dive #15 on Sunday. We were up in Snohomish, so the weather nearly foiled us again! Clouds came in quickly and the dive plan changed at the last minute. Instead of jumping out at 10,000 feet, my coach had me jump out at 5,500. I did my dive flow, including a somersault out of the plane, and a 3 second ‘track’ and then I pulled my chute. About 3 seconds after my chute opened and I knew I wouldn’t need my reserve, I started vomiting. It seemed like GALLONS of coffee and taco. I puked about 5 times before actually landing. Good thing I learned the trick about ‘twirl and hurl’. So every I needed to hurl, I did a turn in order to not puke all over myself. The poor instructors on the ground probably thought the ‘rain’ smelled funny. I also puked on jump #5 in Eloy, AZ. I believe that everyone at the drop zone will start calling me ‘Upchuck”. Seems appropriate, I guess! Regardless of this puking, I will persevere on this skydive licensing goal!!!

did 2 solo jumps! 4 years ago

once again, a journey to Eloy, AZ was the only way to do this. i completed my AFF training and got to solo status. now all i have to do is 12 more jumps with a coach. it was fun doing the last 2 AFF jumps, as i got to dive out of the plane head first and do backflips. after passing my 7 AFF jumps, i got to do 2 solo dives. totally empowering and more fun than i could’ve imagined.

2 more jumps before solo status 4 years ago

I’m on my way. Seattle weather in the winter sucks! I had to go to Eloy, Arizona to get some jumps out of the way. Got to train in the wind tunnel and do 3 more AFF jumps. Just 2 more to go until I get my solo status. :) I’m heading down there again this weekend to try to finish those 2 jumps. Can’t wait to get that solo status!

made it to a C-2 jump 4 years ago

so far, i’ve finished 5 jumps. got dragged out of the plane early on my first AFF jump (jump 4), and got a chance to jump with 2 female instructors on my 2nd AFF jump (jump 5). both jumps involved awesome landings and experriencers. i lived to tell about it. i’m on my way!

What was to be a one-time jump, has turned into a possible hobby? 4 years ago

Well, I did my first jump 3 weeks ago. Since then I’ve done 2 more jumps where I pulled my own rip cord and learned how to turn and drive forward. The drop zone community is an amazing one. All of my tandem instructors have been incredible. Everyone’s so pumped about their sport that they just want to share the love. I am convinced I want to be one of them. Ideally, I’d like to become a videographer/photographer for jumps. But who knows. First things first. I gotta get that license in order to jump solo. I have my first accelerated freefall class in 2 weeks. I’m on my way!
