There is much, much more of this to be done, of course, but today’s walk in the woods was a good start on this. I discovered a little bit of what’s at the top of the incline behind my apartment complex…a funny little residential street, the denizens of which seem to be wealthy in terms of recreational vehicles. Not all that surprising, or all that exciting, but, well, that’s not all what exploring is for anyway. Just doing it is good for the soul.
I think I’ll stick a post-it note to my dashboard to remind me that, when I’m not on my way somewhere under a time constraint, I should remember to make a random turn every now and then and get lost in some neighborhood of Flagstaff that I’ve never visited before. After all, who knows wonders await? Hee.

I’ve lived in this damn town for nigh on a year now, and it’s remarkable how few places I’ve been. Home, the university, the grocery store, the bar. That’s where I go. Not entirely sure what that’s about. Well, I kind of do, sort of. But, like, why don’t I just get in the car and drive around on some of those streets I’ve never been down, see where they go, see what’s at the end of them? It’s not like there are even that many streets here…I could probably drive the entire city map in an afternoon, if I were diligent about it.
Of course, diligence isn’t really the point of exploring…it seems like it should be more about whimsy, serendipity, stuff like that. And I guess I haven’t felt particularly whimsical, serendipitous, or brave.
