clean my apartment

Finally it’s done, to my satisfaction. That last phase took a bit longer than expected…the dryers in my building are kind of small and they kind of suck, so I had to hang up some of the linens and let them dry overnight. But it’s all good—dishes, cat boxes, trash, vaccumming, all that’s done, and I think that the apartment is now ready to receive guests. Yay.

And you know, it actually didn’t take as long as I might have expected. Of course, it never does, but it’s always a surprise when I let the domicile get really bad and then finally clean it up. It kind of makes me wonder why it gets to seem like such a big and daunting thing to deal with. Aside from the fact that I’m sort of crazy in some ways, of course. Hee.

Anyway. Yay. Cross this bad boy off the list!

Wow. It’s kind of remarkable just how much one can get done when one just, well, does something.

So the entire apartment has been vacuumed, the dishes are done and are drying on the counter. The cat boxes have been emptied, some rudimentary dusting has taken place where needed. I swept the bathroom floor (don’t have a mop, but, well, it doesn’t really need mopping anyway), and I just put some linens in the laundry so that my guests, when they arrive tomorrow, have clean towels and such. And all this since the time of the last post.

I think I’m going to order a pizza now, and turn on the baseball game, and when at last the laundry has come out of the dryer, I’ll be able to cross the first thing off my 43things list. Yay! Go me!

All right. Well. I actually got all the books and papers placed in the places that they actually belong, and I’ve managed as well to vacuum the entirety of the living-dining room area. Also got all the dirty dishes consolidated in the area around the kitchen sink. Time, I think, for a celebratory cigarette, and then it’s ONWARDS!

Well, I’ve managed to go the entire weekend, thus far, without actually doing a damn thing to deal with the shambles that is chez moi. So now I’m under the gun, which is how it always seems to go for me when there’s a fixed deadline for something I have to do. I kind of hate that…I wish I could get to a place where I could actually get things done in advance of the eleventh hour. I actually managed that, sort of, with the last story I had to hand into my workshop…had the draft completed and assembled more than 48 hours before I had to hand it in (!!!). But, well, not so much, I guess, with everything else.

I think that would actually make a good goal, on its own, if I could figure out a way of articulating it in less than thirty words. Well. No time for that now. Dishes, garbage, vacuuming, and the dreaded cat boxes await. So. Off I go.

I’ve got friends coming in from out of town on Monday evening, and they’re staying with me, and, well, this place is a shithole right now. I’ve really let it get bad. Got my work cut out for me, I guess.
