Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Re-write sections of my novels

15 cheers

Duplicative at this point...

I’ve re-written a few sections, but it seems that this is now part of my goal “finish my second novel.” I’ll mark it off as completed since I did rewrite many sections.

I’ve gotten through several chapters-rewritten to add a little tension. Twenty five pages have morphed into seventy five…I’ll keep after it.

Found it and moving along

I found the outline and it has really sped things back up. I am going to hit the 75 page re-write goal for Monday.

I am trying again.

I am still trying. It is so much harder to rewrite than to write. I lost a detailed outline that I did of draft three and now I am feeling like I don’t know where I’m going. I’m still trying but not feeling altogether present when I write.

Almost 50 hours.

I am no fan of nanoedmo…it is not nearly as well organized and inspiriational as nanowrimo, but the commitment to do 50 hours has got me moving on my second novel. I’m nearly finished picking the draft apart and writing some new sections and hope to start a full re-write by the end of this week.

Nanoedmo is motivating

The structure seems to be working. I’ve now read through the first half of my second novel. By the end of next week, I’ll be ready for the re-write.

Nanoedmo seems to me, to be a bit silly. But the obligation of editing for 1.5 hours is a challenge and of course, I’ve signed up. That’s all I need. I’m working on novel #2. It’s a bit like looking in the mirror in the fitting room while wearing a bathing suit. Somehow, I’ll find a way to hide this novel’s bulging belly.

Okay-I’ve rewritten chapters 1-3 about a hundred times and haven’t touched the other chapters. Maybe my sub goal should be doing something with chapter 4!
