i think I have a complete and total aversion to being on time, forget attempting to be early. No matter what I tell myself, I cannot get myself out of the vaccuum that is my apartment which sucks me back to find something I have forgotten…either my glasses, cell phone, notebook, etc. etc. – or a chore I’ve “neglected” – fix my makeup, check a website, make a quick outfit change, return a phone call. i wake up early, and then get busy doing something else with my extra time, rather than leave early. Is this procrastination at its worst? I have analyzed it and do not know why I do this. I think, maybe, I don’t want to get to a place early because rarely can I get started doing anything else, and rather than just waiting quietly, I’ll end up making small talk – and standing around and making small talk does not motivate me further than my front door, so I guess I figure I’d rather attend while its already in progress. As long as this is not a practice I engage in in small group situations – but if I find that others do it, I then will fall back into my old ways to avoid standing around waiting.
I’ve got to find a way to think of this differently. Afterall, it can be judged as disrespectful to always be late to class. If I was someone always on time, I’d probably think someone that was late constantly was not dependable or incompetent. If I was paid to go to class, would I then continue to be late or would I be more careful? I think it is just a bad habit and since I would rather be doing most anything else than waiting – then that is what happens.
