get a job

There’s a job going at Tom’s work, for 12 months. It’s not the exact same thing, but it’s closely related. Tom says they’re looking for more than one person, so I have a good chance at at least getting an interview. I think I’m going to give it a go. I would of preferred a job in retail at this point in time, but I’m hoping I could get into that after the year, if I hadn’t changed my mind. Don’t like the idea of abandoning my Retail NVQ – I would look in to doing the occasional Saturday to finish that if possible.

My previous entry was from last November so it’s time I updated. Since then I have volunteered for 6 months back home, before moving to Brighton. A month after moving I found another charity shop to volunteer in while looking for a job. I’m doing that every Wednesday.

Last week I found out that while volunteering I could work towards an NVQ in retail skills. So I’m going ahead with that – it’s meant to take about 6 months, so I’m a bit worried I’ll find a job before then and have to abandon it. But then I would have a job so it doesn’t matter. But if I were to have no luck before completing it, then it’s something to put on my CV and attract more employers.

Not having much luck finding jobs to apply for so far :(

I stopped JSA and applying for a job a while ago, planning to volunteer for a bit before I moved. What do I get today? An e-mail inviting me to an “Open Session”.

The e-mail was addressed to everyone (Good Afternoon Everyone) and shows their addresses which I don’t think is very good lol. 13 people. I applied for this job aaages ago!

two temporary jobs to apply for today. Was pleased about that. Hate seeing permanent opportunities though. Wondering whether to apply for some and consider traveling when moved. Makes things complicated and I’d be spending some of the money I’d earn, but it would mean I would at least have a job till I found something more convenient.

where I don’t want to look for permanent jobs here anymore. February is creeping up on us in some ways (even though I wish it faster). If I were to get a job soon (haven’t had so much as a call/e-mail back though), then I wouldn’t even get 6 months before february hit and I’d want to move in with Tom. I don’t really want to start my first job and have to leave so soon and find another down there. It seems stupid applying for full time permanent stuff, putting all my effort into finding a job, when I want to be out of this place soon.

Don’t like having to phone twice a week for them to do a job search for me, when I can just do it online. I hate talking on the phone. I want to do this at my own pace, my own way. I should never of signed up for jobseeker’s allowance.

I’m thinking about applying for a christmas temp job.

When I phoned Jobseeker Direct on monday two jobs for the same company (different places) were suggested to me. He offered to send the application form by post. My phone credit ran out before finishing the call, but I still expected to receive them. When I got home, I discovered I have received one of them. It doesn’t tell me where I’m meant to send it! I’ll either mention it when I phone again this week or at my 5 minute appointment at the jobcentre on monday.

On a positive note I received my allowance fine last week and should get the next bit next week.

since signing on yesterday morning. What a hassle that was to get to – I missed the last bus/train the night before and got up at 6am to get back. Anyways, should be getting my first allowance this week, when it’s gone through.

Today I’ve applied for 3 jobs, sending my CV by email. I’m just going to totally panic when I finally get an interview though. If that happens lol.

I asked her what she meant about the referee, and I understand now, so that’s okay. But… I still feel totally crap (to save the swear words) about applying, interviews esp, and my capability in getting a job.

I’m also worried what will happen when I tell the jobcentre about the 2 week camping holiday I’m meant to be going on.

“I will be happy to be your referee as I said, but what you will need to do in future if you need more references is put _{(college principal’s name)} as your referee and then your file will be consulted by the powers that be.” What does that mean?!

She also said Trevor has left, so that’s why I got no reply :(
