2008 wasn’t a complete bust, anyway. I have almost the cost of the car saved. It helps that I was stingy this Christmas. I didn’t spend near as much on gifts as I usually have in past years. Doesn’t matter that I’m not quite there yet; there’s no reason to buy it just yet, anyway. I’ll have full ownership of my spouse’s car while he’s gone. By the time he comes back, I should have the money completely squared away.
My own car, here I come . . .

Still Saving
I am still saving money toward a car. This is serving as a test of my patience and resilience. It’s tough not having independent transportation.

I have been without a car for about four 1/2 years.
At first, it felt liberating. As time went on, it felt frustrating. Lately, there have been more and more instances when having a car would have really helped me live my life on my own terms and schedule.
I don’t like debt; I want to buy a car outright. The car fund has almost $5,000 in it so far.
I’ve been looking at hybrid cars. If I go that route (and the more I look into it, the more I really want to) I’ll have to wait longer before I can get a car because I’ll have to save longer. I think the wait will be worth having a car that I can feel good about.
