After completing two undergrad semesters in French, I did keep studying it independently for a few months this summer. I set it aside completely for a while; now I’m in the habit of watching movies with French subtitles on and picking things up that way. I find when I simultaneously hear and read things I pick up a LOT, but simple conversations and writing aren’t close to natural… This is enough progress on French for me at the moment—just making sure I don’t lose what I have so far, and picking up some new stuff bit by bit.
