August's cookings 2 months ago

For the most part, when Max has been here, we’ve eaten out or someone else (like my mother) has prepared the meals for us. But I’ve been cooking, too!
Two weeks ago I made these spaghetti meals for us, they were good. (Can’t really remember anymore what I put in the sauce, though.) A week ago I cooked with Max and Juho, but I didn’t take photos of those pasta meals, so I can’t remember anymore exactly what they contained. :’D But they were good, that I do remember. We also cooked all sorts of things together at Antti’s place last Sunday. Monday night Juho and I had rice and salmon with lemon sauce, yummy. (I’m probably forgetting some meals here, I’m suffering from food dementia. :P)
But what I was really excited about is the lasagne Juho and I made last night. I finally found some chicken ground meat, you wouldn’t believe how long I’ve been looking for it! I was so happy when we managed to find that from the shop. We made everything – except the pasta sheets – from scratch and my lord it tasted so delicious!

I feel really tempted to mark this goal as done, because I’ve been cooking so much more recently than what I did when I took up this goal last year, I think. That was my main target, after all. My diet has also become much more diverse, I have new meals in my “menu” and I can say that I really like cooking. :) I know that I could cook even more and get even better at it… but maybe that’s a place for a new goal. Perhaps.

The upper meal in the collage is something I cooked by myself – couscous, tuna and corn. Very simple and very easy. I did fear it would taste a bit boring, but actually it was rather tasty. :)

The meals that are lower on the pic were cooked yesterday by Juho and I (but mostly by Juho, because I was doing the dishes at the same time) – pasta, honey marinated chicken pieces mixed with a garlic & herb creme and some mini plum tomatoes on the side. Really really delicious!

Experiments 3 months ago

This is something I cooked last week. It looks rather odd, I know, and it was indeed an odd experiment. :D But still rather good, actually! It contains chicken nuggets, spaghetti sprinkled with spices and ketchup, some feta cheese thrown into the mix and a bit of added tomatoes.
This just proves that I’m much more comfortable with trying new things and figuring out what works or doesn’t work well with something else. :)

On Sunday Juho and I made exceptionally delicious food – and it wasn’t even anything fancy! We just put some french fries in the oven, threw in some spices & Juho fried chicken sausages on the pan, throwing in some more spices. (I had never before seen chicken sausages and was very excited to find them in the store.) This all topped off with some tomatoes. Our food tasted really great!
After that we also made a huge pancake in the oven, it was also delicious. It was fun, I hadn’t made one of those by myself yet. :) And we had a fun time trying to decide what to put on top of the pancake; jam, sugar, maple syrup, apple sauce, raspberries, ice cream…

The meal we prepared last night: chicken fillets in honey marinade, couscous, some plum tomatoes again (‘cos they’re just so good), a mix of peas, corn and paprika, and curry sauce. Very good, yum!

Yumminess! 5 months ago

I just had to document this delicious meal here! We made this together yesterday – mashed potatoes, salmon balls, some cottage cheese, tiny plum tomatoes, some leftover taco sauce, all of this topped off with fresh dill! Mmmmmm~ ♥ So good.
And later we made pancakes, yay!

Little chefs 6 months ago

I have been cooking a lot more with Juho these past three months. :) For example, last night we made yummy tortillas! Cooking is fun, especially when you can do it together. We also baked once!
I still won’t mark this goal as done just yet, because I think I can improve even more. I should try more recipies, find new things to cook and just cook even more.

On a sidenote, I’m really jealous of people who have proper kitchen cabinets. :’D

Been hitting a dead end. 9 months ago

I haven’t eaten properly in days and days and days,
so it’s very good that I’m at my mum’s now and will surely be fed! :’D
It’s actually dinner time right now, hurray~

Will need to try harder with cooking again next week.

This week, 10 months ago

I didn’t cook at all before Saturday. :p
Mondays are always “mum days” which means that my mum comes to Tampere and we do things together and she also takes me out to eat. This time we had pizzas together, yummy. Those pizzas were so huge that I ate the leftovers on Tuesday and was satisfied.
Wednesday was a horrible day and I also forgot to eat then. :s I did get hungry at one point, but I was feeling so lousy that the hunger just passed eventually.
On Thursday I ate at university and oh my, it was so delicious! Fish, potatoes and lemony sauce, yum yum yum.
Friday was the Finnish Quartet’s day so we all went to a restaurant and ate well. :)

But yesterday I did cook! And I made something very tasty.
I made rice, heated up some nuggets on the pan and I also had this can of sweet&sour sauce. I wasn’t sure what I should do with the sauce, should I heat it or not. I ended up pouring most of it onto the pan with the nuggets. It was genious! The nuggets tasted so wonderful, they became deliciously marinated. The whole meal was very good and I was happy with myself. :)

Today I won’t be cooking much, since I’ll need to get rid of all the food that is closing in on its expiration date in the fridge. I’ll just eat snacks here and there.

Day 2, I guess 10 months ago

Made something easy again today: spaghetti with a tomato & olive sauce, with feta cheese on top. The sauce was bought ready-made. Even though this wasn’t much, I wanted to record it since it was much more than my usual spaghetti and ketchup meal.
And it tasted very good!
Was supposed to make this yesterday, but then I just ended up eating the left over omelette.

~ Day 1 10 months ago

Today’s menu: Omelette with cheese, turkey meat & green paprika on top.
Yeah, I started with something easy and unspectacular. :D But I was quite excited when I started chopping the paprika and the tiny turkey sausages into pieces, etc. It was fun to make something. (This was probably the first time I’ve used my little chopping block here, heh.) I made everything ready, mixed things and then -
I f£cked up. :x I switched the wrong hot plate on. Well, that wasn’t too bad, I just sort of burnt my finger a bit and then turned the right hot plate on. I waited for it to get hot, the pan on it and some olive oil in the pan. And then all hell broke loose. My smoke detector went off, screaming so insanely loud and almost causing me a heart attack. I had been fearing that some day it might go off when I’m cooking something. I panicked and jumped on my arm chair and tried to pull the battery out of the damned thing. It took me a while, but finally I got it out. In my panic I also thought that the fire brigade might show up and I was paranoid for quite some time, thinking that I heard sirens. :s
This whole episode wasn’t very encouraging, but I managed to prepare my omelette and eat most of it, too. Now the whole thing seems quite amusing, but I’m still a bit shaken up and irritated.
I’ll have to be careful with that smoke detector from now on. :’D
