meet more interesting people

Last night, I went to a law school party that was billed a “costume gala,” so I figured it would be fun and semi-classy. Imagine my surprise when it ended up being in a converted gym lit with a few Ikea lamps, and a bunch of kegs and vodka punch. Yipes, junior high school flashbacks! I was hoping it would be an opportunity to interact with some of my classmates and meet new people, but I think the junior high atmosphere forced people into an eighth grade mindset, completely rife with all the insecurities and standoffishness that accompanied it. I’m still trying though.

I’ve met quite a few interesting people this year so far. I think the next step is actually enaging with them, going places, and doing some fun stuff. Like an actual social life of all things! Huzzah!

It seems like everyone I’ve been meeting lately has been as bland as the fish sticks at a retirement home. Maybe it’s just where I live now, but I’d love to meet more people with interesting life stories, anecdotes, etc. Someone who doesn’t think that last night’s episode of Big Brother or the nice weather is fodder for excellent conversation.
