Walking = good
Standing = bad
And here I was avoiding walking.

I need to accept that my cute boots are not good for my feet. No more wearing them when I have to stand or walk.

I went back to the podiatrist.
My feet almost entirely have stopped hurting, so he just told me to continue with what I’ve been doing. What I’ve been doing is wearing the same pair of running shoes all day every day, with exceptions of fancy dinners and weddings at which I make myself hurt a lot. He gave me a list of shoe brands that might work well for me.
I’m going to attempt to be really good and SLOWLY start updating my shoe wardrobe with the goal of having shoes for every occasion that are good for my Achilles tendon and getting rid of all bad shoes. (Any feedback on the pair above? Casual enough for summer shorts and dressy enough for dresses?)
I can’t afford to do this all at once, of course, so it’s going to be a long process. In the mean time I may get an orthotic so I can continue to wear some of my casual shoes. And I’ll keep my one pair of cute heals since I only wear heals once or twice a year and cute orthopedic heals are both hard to find and super expensive. I’ll just keep in mind that I should sit as much as possible and only wear heals for a few hours at a time.
I have ran-sacked the house and have no idea where the heating pad is. I hope it didn’t get donated in the move.
I busted my clothing budget for the next 3 months and bought some new shoes. I couldn’t bring myself to buy the ugly-ass walking shoes that the salesman said were the most recommended for Achilles tendonitis. Instead I got running shoes that are like the 4’th best thing, but at least acceptable to wear under the age of 70.
And I’m icing my feet right now.
Also, I did the whole stance analysis deal at the store and learned a bit more about my feet and feet in general. I showed the guy my Danskos and he said that the re-soling I had done a while back might have triggered this. The new soles are wearing away quickly and giving the shoes and unstable shape. He recommended tossing them and buying another pair of Danskos if I really can’t live without clogs. He said they should actually be not too bad for my feet. This was at a store that doesn’t even sell them, so I feel like I could trust that recommendation. Of course, I cannot afford them at the moment so it doesn’t really matter…
Finally saw the doctor and found I have Achilles tendinitis. Although, I have to admit I am slightly skeptical of the diagnosis.
So, the plan is to stick with the treatment plan and not over-stretch it during yoga. I go back in a month to review. He said it could be up to 3 weeks before it starts to feel better.
1. Heating pad and gentle stretch in the AM (daily)
2. Heating pad before yoga if possible, (wonder if I can just turn on my floor heaters when I drive there) Don’t overstrech in yoga. (2-4/week)
3. Get and wear new walking shoes (daily)
4. Don’t “grin and bare it”... anti-inflammatories are healing as well as pain killing (daily)
5. Ice after use. (daily)
6. Get good enough at yoga to do heated yoga. (eventually)
