I’ve been doing well enough to call this done.
I hope to continue in the warmer months when I go nuts at the farmer’s market.
Last night I finished up another squash and almost called this complete. Then I found a bunch of radishes from Thanksgiving in the back of the fridge.
Why did I buy carrots? Will they ever be gone? Do they multiply? I thought they were almost gone but the bag still looks full. Do I have haunted carrots? Why has Safeway suddenly stopped selling hummus? How am I supposed to eat two lbs of baby carrots without any hummus?
Tossed another 1/2 squash and a bag of peas.
I think I’ve been going about the squash wrong. I need to cook each half as I’m going to eat it, rather than cooking the whole thing and then expecting myself to eat the dried out leftovers. Will try this new method from now on. Honestly, I’m not totally convinced it will help becuase it means doubling the amount of cooking (for a whole hour each time) and neither cooking nor patience are my strong suits.
Tossed some asparagus and 1/2 a squash. I’m pretty proud of myself for eating the first half, in the past I would have let it sit all winter!
Doing really well with fruits.
The boy and I had oranges with our eggs and toast this morning. Wouldn’t have ever thought to eat oranges for breakfast if they had been hiding in the fridge.
I just started this goal, and at what a time…
I returned yesterday from 2 weeks away. Obviously, I’d tossed everything perishable before leaving and planned to make a new go with the produce on returning. When I arrived I found that my boyfriend had re-stocked my kitchen to surprize me! Is that not the sweetest thing in the whole wide world?
Now I have apples and bananas and nectarines and tomatos and salad greens and broccoli and an avacado to eat in the next few days before they go bad. Eek thats a lot of produce!
So what am I snacking on right now? Craisins, walnuts and beer. All welcome-home foods, but not the urgent perishables. Will have a turkey sandwhich (with welcome-home bread and meat, also perishable) with tomato and avacado and a salad for dinner, with a nectarine for dessert.
