“For ME?” she inquired enthusiastically knowing perfectly well that it is indeed for her.

“Yes, for you.”

And later I inhaled deeply of her, my nose buried in her neck, her hair, her essence, close, rich and just right.

Perfume works on everybody differently. No one will ever quite have her scent. And when it is combined with the L’Air, and the soaps and shampoos and unguents she uses, the result is very light, rich and absolutely distinctive. Her scent is so highly specific and personal, so one-of-a-kind, that I will never know it anywhere else, ever again, even if I chose to look. And I do not, for I have waited a lifetime to find her. I’m done.

Later, when she’s not with me and I long for her, I may step into the closet just for the scent. It is a rich and pure reminder of so much.

But I shan’t get a whiff quite yet. Not till she sillages me. And that will be soon.
