my work email 19 months ago

is still too big (a few thousand messages) but I am working on going through these a few extra each day. I have started using the different color codes on the messages to let me know to whom in my group I have assigned the message.

accidental cleaning 2 years ago

I got a message that my mailbox was over it’s limit so I went to check the folder size. Well there was a button next to the “calculate folder size” that was something about “clear offline items.” Being the curious type I clicked without knowing what it would do. Well all 1300 emails in my inbox went bye-bye along with all my tasks. The help desk was able to recover them (whewhhh). I went ahead and deleted @500. I hope to keep this up for several days and end up with a clean box.

Well, I had done rather well and had even come up with some plans for keeping the mailbox size down. I was not comitted to keeping up and now my work inbox has grown to almost 1600 messages :-(

this looks interesting 3 years ago

I found this link on lifehacker. It is not too radically different from other approches but I am going to give it a try.

forced cleanup 3 years ago

well, my home computer crashed and I managed to lose my email folders. The unread stuff doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the stuff I was saving.

Now I am setting up my new Macintosh computer and need to develop good habits for keeping the new inbox clean.

right now I have 489 emails in my work email inbox (not counting emails in project folders). These should all be moved to the projects to which they pertain or be acted upon and deleted.

(my home email was worse, I had over 5000 unopened emails recently. the leather artists email group to which I belong can grow FAST!!!. It was so scary. I just sorted for anything with attachments, looked at the pictures and deleted/saved, sorted again by autor looking for certain artists I admire, read/saved/deleted their stuff, then sorted by subject and quickly deleted all remaining emails).
