complete my Ph.D.

I ended up taking several more classes to “beef up” for my disseration. I will take my Comprehensive Exam in the fall. This summer will be prep time!

Today I will take my last final exam of my graduate school career. I’m nervous and excited. The course is Experimental Design. I will walk out of there having completed all of my coursework toward my Ph.D. I set the goal of earning a Ph.D. when I was 12 years old. It feels awesome to be one step closer.

My meeting with my advisor was fabulous! I’m being an offered a teaching fellowship. Dream come true!!!! Also, ALL of my credits from my previous program will transfer to my new program. Therefore, I am done with coursework after the current term. Hooray!!!!!

I got my acceptance letter this week. I will meet with my new advisor soon. I’ve been working on research questions for my dissertation.

A delay! But it’s a good thing. After two academic years (plus two summer sessions) in the Reading Education program, I have decided to switch to something that is a better fit for my interests: Language, Literacy, and Culture. I will lose some credits, but it is the right choice.

By September 1st, I have to submit my progress letter describing the strides that I have made over the last year toward my Ph.D. I’m proud that I have a lot to report this year.

I have finished four semesters and two summer courses. I should be done with classes in 2007, and I’ll be on to the dissertation.
